Faith
God does not call us to ease, but to faithful joy.” – John Piper
When I was nearing my college graduation I began feeling anxious about the future. Like everyone else I grew up being asked, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” The question takes on a whole new meaning as a senior. I began to worry that God had the secret to my new life as an independent adult, but that he just wasn’t telling me.
So I searched the scriptures, I prayed, I even practiced quieting myself. I laid in silence and begged the Lord to give me direction. Feeling defeated, I scheduled a meeting with one of my professors to explain my situation. I went over all of the steps I had taken that year to listen to the Lord. I declared, “If he will just tell me what to do, I will do it! I will go anywhere he wants; he just has to tell me!”
I was waiting for my professor to encourage and comfort me. Instead, she looked me squarely in the eye and said, “Ginger, he has told you what to do. Where can you go on this planet and not live your life for him? He gave you passions and desires for a reason. Make a choice and then make him proud. Hebrews 11:6 says that “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” What takes more faith; God pointing to a lit path that lays out your every step, or God asking you to trust him and just go?”
I learned a valuable lesson that day. Faith is a step we take daily. It is not a single jump towards “right-living” – but a minute by minute commitment to trust his perfect will more than I trust my own. It is a journey, and without it…”it’s impossible to please God.”

I’m thrilled that we are learning about faith this weekend. It’s always exciting to see children set the example for adults. Jesus was the ultimate champion for child-like faith. Our specific Bible lesson can be found in 1 Samuel 14:1-14. If you aren’t familiar with it – I would definitely challenge you to check it out!
Some of you are out on vacation…have fun! I will see everyone else this weekend!
