Overflow
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
This weekend marks the start of our 4:12 series. Based off of the verse in 1 Timothy, this series is a challenge to our kids to not allow their youthfulness to deter them from making a huge impact. Each week we will explore a different avenue in which we all can set an example to those around us.
This weekend of 4:12
Set an example with our SPEECH
Emphasis: Mighty Words
Ever had this happen? You find yourself stressed out, at the end of your rope, and suddenly you’ve said something you didn’t mean to. First instinct: “Where did that come from?” As out of the blue as our outbursts of anger and harsh words may seem at the time, the root of the problem is pretty easily diagnosed.
Proverbs 4:23-24 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.”
It is no mistake that the verses follow each other, and there is no mistaking where our words originate from. The heart is central to the issue. “For out of the overflow of the mouth, the heart speaks.” (Luke 6:45)
If the wisest man ever to live tells us that above everything else we are to guard our hearts, it’s probably noteworthy.
Important reminders for this weekend:
Jr. Crew orientation and HD 101 - June 7
Malaria No More special offering - June 7/8
Team Time Out - June 8
See you soon!
