Teaching by Example

"Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.  Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever. Amen." Matthew 6:9-13

I grew up attending a very traditional church that recited the Lord's Prayer each and every Sunday.  A prayer demonstrated to us by Jesus in the book of Matthew, it has become one of the most familiar prayers in churches throughout the world.  This weekend we want to do more than simply read through the prayer.  In both Jungle and Elevate we will examine the Lord's prayer to examine how Jesus taught us to pray.

Jesus was a man of prayer.  He would rise early in the morning to pray, often leaving his disciples and followers for periods of time to withdraw and talk with his father.  He would have been watched closely by everyone around him, and his example taught them not only about the necessity of prayer, but also the peace that comes through a familiar relationship with the Lord.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.  Hebrews 4:16

See you this weekend for week #2 of "P is for Prayer." - Ginger
