Because He would go.
Salt and Light. We're learning about Matthew 5:13-16 this weekend in both Jungle and Elevate. Obviously in order for light or salt to have any effect on the outside world they have to be willing to be used. Keeping salt in the shaker next to my plate does nothing to the food unless it is poured out. The flashlight under my desk does not help me to see unless I flip the switch. Movement is required!
I've recently started going through a study of Genesis and The Patriarchs and found myself wondering at the Fathers of the Nation of Israel. Abram [Abraham] who did not always wait, obey, or trust - is chosen to have more descendents than the sands in the sea. This man from Ur was selected out of everyone on the planet of that time to receive THE PROMISE. So why Abram?
Genesis 12:4 suggests an initial answer: "So Abram left." Perhaps one answer is simply, "Because he'd go." (Beth Moore)
I know I say that I am willing to go. I promise that I'm ready to do whatever is asked of me. I pray over and over - Send me, I'm ready! But I'm not sure where we are going so I bide my time like salt still in the shaker.
I find comfort in the story of Abram. The only thing God told Abram about his ultimate destination was that He would show it to Him. In other words, "The only way you're going to find it is to walk with Me. When we get close, I'll show it to you."
And he did. "So Abram built an altar there to the Lord." (Genesis 12:7)
Trust. Move. Act. Salt. Light. Let's flavor it up.
His,
Ginger
