Learning to follow...

Disciple: a follower who has learned to believe in the truth of his teacher.

It’s amazing to think about how many things I do because of the training I received from my parents. I’ve been taught to write thank you notes, change the oil in my car every 5,000 miles, and to appreciate classical music. It might be easy to assume that these have come out of habit and repetition, but the truth of the matter is that I follow these guidelines because I trust my parents. You could try and argue (along with the car dealerships) that my oil should be changed every 3,000 miles – but I’m probably still going with my dad’s advice.

As children we spend years following the lead of our parents. As adults, we change, but more often then not, we find ourselves being “just like my mom.”

The disciples of Jesus spent 3 years following his every move. They listened to him, asked him questions, and learned to believe in the truth of their teacher. As believers we too are called to be Disciples of Christ. And while we cannot literally walk behind Jesus as he heals the blind man in the Gospels, we can follow him through scripture and in our daily walk.

Every weekend our hope is to teach the truth of THE Teacher to every child that enters HD Ministries. The fact is that for some of these children you are the most visible picture of Jesus. We are the hands and feet of Christ. We must be prepared to say with Paul, “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.”

We continue with week #3 of Bible Boot Camp this weekend. The key word is indeed “Disciple”. Don’t forget your camo gear and make sure all the 11:00 volunteers welcome Justin Tsuma to the team this weekend!

See you guys soon!

p.s. In case anyone asks about the Christmas Musical: Sign ups are still available! The information packets will be under the Children’s ramada out in the courtyard all weekend. The musical is open to all students 1st-5th grades.
