Not a cattle call...

"When you understand what Jesus means when He says that you must follow Him, you finally realize that His is not a cattle call, He is not calling you to the same life that everyone else will live. He's not even calling you to the same path that every follower of Christ will walk. Your life is unique before God, and your path is yours and yours alone." - Erwin McManus The Barbarian Way

I find that quote to be absolutely reassuring. If you’re like me you’ve probably spent a portion of your life wondering why:

a) You are well…You.
b) You don't have it as easy as others.
c) You (thankfully) don’t have life as hard as some.
d) You can’t seem to keep it together.
e) You don’t hear God the way others do.

But here’s what’s really amazing – you and I have a part to play in the record of time. Each book, chapter, and story are vastly different from each other. Each call is unique and the Lord seems to use vastly different ways to catch the attention of His beloved people. I was challenged last night to consider how the Lord may be calling me. I've been trying to hear Him and I just wanted His audible voice this time. When we look at those who have gone before us in the Bible, we find an array of callings. Isaiah had to run around naked for two years, Jeremiah was only a child, Samuel was quite literally called when he wasn't even asking to hear, Moses saw a bush, and Esther was challenged through her uncle. Peter walked on water, the three young guys walked into fire, and Elijah heard a whisper.

You and I have received a calling. We are called by the Creator to make His name known in whatever situation we find ourselves. May that be our goal one conversation, e-mail, and even smile at a time.

We all have a say in writing our own story. Refuse to leave the world in the same condition. Deny the desire to remain neutral and simply float along. Create out of the decay that we find all around us. Live your life in such a way so that the ending chapter of your story reads “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

We will see you this weekend for the final installment of Case Closed!

In Him,
Ginger
