Satisfied

This Thursday many of us will be enjoying that great American past time: overeating. We excel at it as a nation. The amazing thing about food is that it does satisfy. But food also has the odd capacity to provide us with that horribly stuffed feeling. It eventually passes, but not before a very uncomfortable period of time.

As Americans we know what it means to have plenty. At different times in our lives we've probably experienced excess in some facet. This season you may be feeling the squeeze of the economic challenges. I know of many families who have every reason to feel frustration and concern over the events that have unfolded these past months. My challenge to us all is that we would rejoice and thank the Lord regardless of our situation. That we might remember that He is the God who provides, and the God who satisfies. May we declare with the Psalmist:

Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,

and forget not all his benefits-
who forgives all your sins

and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:1-5

May you and yours experience the JOY of your salvation this Thanksgiving. May we remember all we truly have to be thankful for.

Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26
