In spite of it all...

Each Tuesday morning the HD Staff come together not only to discuss the ins and outs of the weekend but also to lift up each other and you, our volunteers, in prayer. These past few weeks have felt heavy to say the least. From seriously ill friends and family to unbelievably challenging hardships – we seem to be going through some extreme trials as an entire team. It can be easy to become discouraged and wonder what in the world is going on.

I’ve joined Pastor Lee in his pledge to read the Bible in a year. I decided to start the year out with the book of Job. Encouraging, right? Job, the righteous man who sought to honor God in all of his life, suddenly finds himself childless, penniless, friendless, and disease ridden. Although he refuses to roll over and curse God, he begins to wonder why God permits this series of crippling events. Can you identify? Check out Beth Moore's thoughts on the topic:

"Something is always wrong! We still live in the real world where we get our feelings hurt, go to funerals, get rejected, catch stomach viruses, and age overnight. Life here is full of trouble whether in a sky-high mountain of small annoyances or an earth-splitting canyon of crisis. There's no escaping it until we escape these mortal bodies. No life is free of troubles, regardless of religion, race, or nation. In fact, as Job said, every life is full of it. When we trust our lives to the hand and pen of an unseen but ever-present God, He will write our lives into His story and every last one of them will turn out to be a great read. With a grand ending. And not just in spite of those catastrophes. Often because of them."

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For momentary, light affliction (trouble) is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Something to hang your hat on the next time you get a hang nail, you run out of gas, your best friend is a no show, or worse. Something is always wrong, but SOMEONE is always right there!

This weekend is the debut for our new series “In The Beginning” – hope to see you there!!
