Who am I?

seventy-one by Lois A. Cheney

Who am I?

If only I knew who I was.
If only I knew what I could do.

It is enough that He knows - it must be enough! It is only when we place our identity, dependency, and hope on Him that we even begin to know who we really are.

Shakespeare says "To thine own self be true." God teaches us to know HIM, not to know ME. On my own I am broken, arrogant, desperate, and alone. In Him I am victorious, humbled, fulfilled, and satisfied.

My job is not who I am. My friendships and relationships are not who I am. My talents aren't who I am. My name isn't who I am. I am, plain and simply, a child of God. You are a child of the King.

How refreshing. How encouraging. How challenging. I hope and pray that your spiritual journey, wherever it is, is grounded upon your identity in Him. How he sees, loves, and saves is the only thing that counts.

May our battle cry for 2009 be to know more of Him. "He must become greater, I must become less." John 3:30
