I will follow Him...

You guessed it. The key word this weekend is FOLLOW. We are finishing up EXODUS with the actual exit from Egypt. Finally! After hundreds of years in slavery and ten terrible plagues, the Israelites were finally free to leave Egypt. Of course, that freedom was very short-lived. Pharaoh quickly reversed his decision and sent his army after the Israelites. With the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptian army behind, the Israelites felt trapped.
Can you imagine what it would have been like to be stuck between that giant body of water and such an enormous army? Terrifying! Even though the Israelites had been following God out of Egypt, they suddenly allowed their fears to get the best of them. It reminds me of the story of Peter walking on water, or Peter when he denied Jesus, or Peter when…wait a second, I see a pattern here. The truth is that we can be a lot like Peter. We declare ourselves to be followers of Christ, but when we find ourselves in a pickle, things sometimes get a little shaky …much like the Israelites.
The Bible gives us many examples of people who thought they had no more options. But just when it looks like there is no hope left, God works his miracles out of the impossible. In the same way, just when the Israelites thought their situation was hopeless, God parted the Red Sea for them. They were able to escape from the Egyptian army and followed God to the Promised Land.
Remember, life may seem overwhelming at times, but following God is always the best answer.
“Don’t be afraid! Be brave, and you will see the Lord save you today. The Lord will fight for you, and you won’t have to do a thing.” Exodus 14:13-14
P.S. Hope to see you at the volunteer meeting tonight in Elevate at 6:15pm – pizza included!
